New Beginnings
Six years ago, after more than twenty years of service at St. John’s, our Capuchin Franciscans, Fathers Simon Conrad and Canice Froehlich concluded their extraordinary ministry here. At that time, because of their diminishing numbers in the midwest province, the entire Capuchin Franciscan community in St. Louis concluded its ministry in St. Louis. Many of you remember them with gratitude. Several of you are still in contact with them. Last August, Father Canice made a new beginning as the Capuchin Franciscans all concluded their ministry at the parish in Hays, Kansas where he had served. He and Father Simon were then briefly, together again.

On December 6, 2013, the Feast of St. Nicholas, Father Simon passed away, after experiencing some months of failing health. He would have celebrated his 93rd birthday in February of 2014. May God reward him as only He can, for the difference for good Father Simon made here in his priestly life and ministry. And may he see God now face to face.

Father Canice has moved back to Hays, Kansas to Via Christi Nursing Home.
